1] The Hare and His Friends
There lived a hare in a forest. He had many friends. He believed that they would help him in his danger.
One day, the hare was chased by a ferocious dog. He ran fast to save his life. On the way, he met his old friend, the bull, whom he asked to worry the dog and save his life. The bull said, "Friend, I'm very busy now.
I must meet my wife who is waiting for me on the bank of the river. You've many other friends in this forest. Any one of them will help you, I'm sure." Saying so the bull left the hare now met another old friend, the horse, whom he asked to drive away the dog.
The horse said, "Friend, I am very busy now. I'm looking for my lost child in the forest. So, I am going, but I am sure, any other friend of yours will definitely help you." The horse too galloped away.
The hare then requested to a few more friends, such as the buffalo, the zebra, and some other strong animals. But each one turned down his request on some plea or the other.
Now the dog was so near as to catch him. Finding no other way to save his life, the hare entered into a hole which he noticed nearby. As the dog did not see the hare, he went back.
Moral of the Story :- One real friend is better than too many false friends.
2] The Slave and the Lion
Once there was a slave in Rome. His master was very cruel. He ran away to a forest. He went into a cave to live there. He slept in the cave. Suddenly he woke up to hear the roar of a lion. He saw a lion there.
The lion was limping. The slave saw a thorn in the lion's paw. He pulled it out. The lion felt relief. Both became friends.
One day, the slave was caught by his master's men. He ordered him to be thrown before a hungry lion. When the slave was brought before the lion, the lion did not kill him. It was the same lion. The lion licked his feet. All were surprised at this strange sight. The slave was set free. The lion was given to him as a reward.
Moral of the Story :- Kindness never goes unrewarded.
3] The Dishonest Doctor
Once an old lady lost her eyesight and became blind. She called a doctor and agreed to pay him a very big amount if he cured her.
But she will not give a single penny if she is not cured. Doctor daily came to her house for treatment.
He started stealing lady's furniture and other valuable things from the house. He took away everyday one thing from lady's house.
So, he delayed curing the lady. He cured the lady after he had removed all the furniture and valuable articles from the lady's house.
Now doctor demanded his fee from the lady. But she refused to pay the fees and said that she is not fully cured.
Doctor registered a case against her in the court. On being asked by the judge why she was not paying the fee, she told the court that her eye sight is not fully restored.
She could not see her furniture and other articles in the house. The judge was very clever. He understood the matter and punished the doctor.
Moral of the Story :- Dishonesty never wins.
4] Strong or Weak
There was a proud teak tree in the forest. He was tall and strong. There was a small herb next to the tree.
The teak tree said, "I am very handsome and strong. No one can defeat me." Hearing this, the herb replied, "Dear friend, too much pride is harmful. Even the strong will fall one day."
The teak ignored the herb's words. He continued to praise himself.
A strong wind blew. The teak stood firmly. Even when it rained, the teak stood strong by spreading its leaves.
During these times, the herb bowed low. The teak made fun of the herb.
One day, there was a storm in the forest. The herb bowed low. As usual, the teak did not want to bow.
The storm kept growing stronger. The teak could no longer bear it. He felt his strength giving way.
He tried his best to stand upright, but in the end, he fell down. That was the end of the proud tree.
When everything was calm again, the herb stood straight. He looked around. He saw that the proud teak had fallen.
Moral of the Story :- Pride goes before a fall.
5] The Four Friends
Four friends live in a village which has been struck by famine. Three of them are extremely clever and learned and consider their friend Shivanand a lazy but practical fool.
The four decide to go a place called Manasa, which is considered an asylum for scholars. On their way they have to pass through a forest. There they come across bones of a lion. Satyanand decides to show his knowledge by recreating the lion’s skeleton. The other friend reconstructs the lion’s muscles and structure. Vidyanand then wants to show his superior powers by breathing life into the lion.
Shivanand tries to stop them and warns them of the consequences of their plans. But they do not stop. Shivanand climbs a tree before Vidyanand foolishly proceeds with his plans. The lion comes to life and devours the three learned fools.
Shivanand’s practical nature saves him.
Moral of the Story :- It is better to be practical than learned.
6] The Mouse and the Bull
Once upon a time there lived a big bull in a village. The village was situated near a lake. One day, when the bull felt thirsty, he started walking towards the lake.
There was a tiny mouse living in the same village. The mouse was sitting by the side of the lake and basking in the sun. The bull who was going to drink water from the lake stepped on the tail of the mouse. The mouse squeaked in pain. He looked at his tail. It was completely crushed. 'This foolish bull has crushed my tail. I'll bite this bull to death.' The mouse said to himself and jumped on to the bull's back and started biting him with his sharp teeth. The bull didn't feel any pain. He was rather unaware of the presence of a little mouse on his back.
After sometime the mouse was tired of biting the bull. Seeing no reaction, he jumped off the bull's back and stood before him blocking his way. The bull looked at the mouse and asked, "Why do you block my way? Get out of my path, otherwise, you'll be crushed."
"You've already done it," said the mouse angrily. He showed his tail to the bull and said, "I bit you all over your back. Didn't you feel any pain?"
The bull was surprised to listen to this. He laughed and replied, "Did I really stamp on your tail and did you really bite me all over my body? I never realized both. However, I'm sorry, if it really happened?”
The mouse was left speechless to hear the bull's answer. He thought to himself that it was quite useless to argue with that thick-skinned animal. The mouse felt very much disgusted and went to his home crying in pain.
Moral of the Story :- It's no use arguing with a stupid person
7] Bad Company
A rich man had only one son. The son fell into the bad company. He developed many bad habits.
The man was much worried about the habits of his son. He tried his best to mend his habits but he could not succeed. One day he thought of a plan to teach his son a lesson.
He went to market and purchased some fresh apples and a rotten one. He came back to his home and called his son. He asked his son to put all the apples along with the rotten one in the almirah.
The son did the same. After some days father asked his son to bring the apples. As he opened the door of almirah he was surprised to note that all the apples had become rotten. He felt sad.
At this his father told him to see how one rotten apple had spoiled all the rest. In the same way one bad companion could spoil all others. The father's advice had the desired effect. The boy gave up bad company and became good again.
Moral of the Story :- Better alone than in bad company.
8] Lazy Donkey
Bhola owns a donkey called Khandya. Bhola is a very tolerant and kind master. The donkey is lazy and is always finding ways to avoid work.
Once while returning with loads of salt on his back, Khandya falls in the river. He realizes that the fall has lessened the weights of the sacks as the salt has dissolved in the water.
The next few days Khandya purposely falls into the water every day. Bhola is unhappy at the way Khandya is behaving because he is losing money in the process. He decides to teach Khandya a lesson.
The next day instead of salt bags he loads Khandya with bags of cotton. Khandya is unaware of the change. As planned, he falls into the water and gets the bags wet. He is surprised to find the load unbearable. His otherwise master also starts beating him. Khandya learns his lesson and starts behaving...
Moral of the Story :- Work with honesty and sincerity because laziness will ruin you.
9] The Wise Old Man
A wealthy man requested an old scholar to wean his son away from his bad habits. The scholar took the youth for a stroll through a garden. Stopping suddenly, he asked the boy to pull out a tiny plant growing there.
The youth held the plant between his thumb and forefinger and pulled it out. The old man then asked him to pull out a slightly bigger plant. The youth pulled hard and the plant came out, roots and all. “Now pull out that one,” said the old man pointing to a bush. The boy had to use all his strength to pull it out.
“Now take this one out,” said the old man, indicating a guava tree. The youth grasped the trunk and tried to pull it out. But it would not budge. “It’s impossible,” said the boy, panting with the effort.
“So, it is with bad habits,” said the sage. “When they are young it is easy to pull them out but when they take hold they cannot be uprooted.”
The session with the old man changed the boy’s life.
Moral of the Story :- Don’t wait for Bad Habits to grow in you, drop them while you have control over it else, they will get control you.
10] Lesson Learned
One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.
On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, “How was the trip?”
“It was great, Dad.”
“Did you see how poor people live?” the father asked.
“Oh yeah,” said the son.
“So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?” asked the father.
The son answered: “I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.
“We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.
“We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs.
“We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them.”
The boy’s father was speechless.
Then his son added, “Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are.”
Moral of the Story :- Love, Unity, Care, Satisfaction is richer than any comfort money gives.
11] Five More Minutes
While at the park one day, a woman sat down next to a man on a bench near a playground. “That’s my son over there,” she said, pointing to a little boy in a red sweater who was gliding down the slide. “He’s a fine-looking boy” the man said. “That’s my daughter on the bike in the white dress.”
Then, looking at his watch, he called to his daughter. “What do you say we go, Melissa?” Melissa pleaded, “Just five more minutes, Dad. Please? Just five more minutes.” The man nodded and Melissa continued to ride her bike to her heart’s content. Minutes passed and the father stood and called again to his daughter. “Time to go now?”
Again, Melissa pleaded, “Five more minutes, Dad. Just five more minutes.” The man smiled and said, “OK.” “My, you certainly are a patient father,” the woman responded.
The man smiled and then said, “Her older brother Tommy was killed by a drunk driver last year while he was riding his bike near here. I never spent much time with Tommy and now I’d give anything for just five more minutes with him. I’ve vowed not to make the same mistake with Melissa. She thinks she has five more minutes to ride her bike. The truth is, I get Five more minutes to watch her play.”
Moral of the Story :- Life is all about making priorities, and family is one and only priority on top of all other, so spend all time you can with loved ones.
12] The Fox and the Grapes
One afternoon a fox was walking through the forest and spotted a bunch of grapes hanging from over a lofty branch.
“Just the thing to quench my thirst,” he thought. Taking a few steps back, the fox jumped and just missed the hanging grapes. Again, the fox took a few paces back and tried to reach them but still failed.
Finally, giving up, the fox turned up his nose and said, “They’re probably sour anyway,” and proceeded to walk away.
Moral of the Story :- It’s easy to despise what you cannot have.
13] The Miser and His Gold
An old miser lived in a house with a garden. The miser hid his gold coins in a pit under some stones in the garden. Every day, before going to bed, the miser went to the stones where he hid the gold and counted the coins. He continued this routine every day, but not once did he spend the gold he saved.
One day, a thief who knew the old miser’s routine, waited for the old man to go back into his house. After it was dark, the thief went to the hiding place and took the gold. The next day, the old miser found that his treasure was missing and started crying loudly.
His neighbor heard the miser’s cries and inquired about what happened. On learning what happened, the neighbor asked, “Why didn’t you save the money inside the house? It would’ve been easier to access the money when you had to buy something!”
“Buy?”, said the miser. “I never used the gold to buy anything. I was never going to spend it.”
On hearing this, the neighbor threw a stone into the pit and said, “If that is the case, save the stone. It is as worthless as the gold you have lost”.
Moral of the Story :- A possession is just as worthy of what it is used for.
14] The Fox and the Goat
One fine evening a fox was roaming around in the dark while it fell into a well. The water in the well was shallow for it to survive the drowning, but the pit was too deep for it to jump off. The fox tried its level best to come out, but all was in vain. So, it decided to remain there until the next morning when the other animals will come to the well.
Next morning the fox heard a voice. “What are you doing there?” the squeaky voice said. The fox looked up to see the goat that was passing by the well. He thought he should make use of the innocent and silly goat to get himself out of the well.
“I came here to drink water”, replied the sly fox. “It is the best water I have ever tasted. Come and drink the water for yourself.” The goat jumped into the well without thinking twice. The goat quenched its thirst and looked for a way to get out. But just like the fox, it also found itself helpless to come out.
Then the fox said, “I have an idea. You stand on your hind legs. I’ll climb on your head and get out. Then I shall help you come out too.” The goat was very innocent to understand the shrewdness of the fox and did as the fox said and helped him get out of the well. But the fox did not come back to help the goat as promised. The goat cried for help but the selfish fox did not care.
While walking away, the fox said, “Had you been intelligent enough, you would have never got in without seeing how to get out.”
Moral of the Story :- Look before you leap. Do not just blindly walk into anything without thinking.
15] Strong or Weak

16] Think Before You Judge
A doctor entered the hospital in hurry after being called in for an urgent surgery. He answered the call asap, changed his clothes and went directly to the surgery block. He found the boy’s father pacing in the hall waiting for the doctor.
On seeing him, the father yelled, “Why did you take all this time to come? Don’t you know that my son’s life is in danger? Don’t you have any sense of responsibility?”
The doctor smiled and said, “I am sorry, I wasn’t in the hospital and I came as fast as I could after receiving the call and now, I wish you’d calm down so that I can do my work”.
“Calm down?! What if your son was in this room right now, would you calm down? If your own son dies while waiting for doctor than what will you do??” said the father angrily. The doctor smiled again and replied, “We will do our best by God’s grace and you should also pray for your son’s healthy life”.
“Giving advises when we’re not concerned is so easy” Murmured the father.
The surgery took some hours after which the doctor went out happy, “Thank goodness! your son is saved!” And without waiting for the father’s reply he carried on his way running by saying, “If you have any questions, ask the nurse”.
“Why is he so arrogant? He couldn’t wait some minutes so that I ask about my son’s state” Commented the father when seeing the nurse minutes after the doctor left. The nurse answered, tears coming down her face, “His son died yesterday in a road accident, he was at the burial when we called him for your son’s surgery. And now that he saved your son’s life, he left running to finish his son’s burial.”
Moral of the Story :- Never judge anyone because you never know how their life is and what they’re going through.
17] Greed-A-Curse
Once upon a time there lived a cloth merchant in a village with his wife and two children. They were indeed quite well-off. They had a beautiful hen which laid an egg every day. It was not an ordinary egg, rather, a golden egg. But the man was not satisfied with what he used to get daily. He was a get rich-trice kind of a person.
The man wanted to get all the golden eggs from his hen at one single go. So, one day he thought hard and at last clicked upon a plan. He decided to kill the hen and get all the eggs together.
So, the next day when the hen laid a golden egg, the man caught hold of it, took a sharp knife, chopped off its neck and cut its body open.
There was nothing but blood all around & no trace of any egg at all. He was highly grieved because now he would not get even one single egg.
His life was going on smoothly with one egg a day but now, he himself made his life miserable. The outcome of his greed was that he started becoming poorer & poorer day by day and ultimately became a pauper. How jinxed and how much foolish he was.
Moral of the Story :- One who desires more, loses all. One should remain satisfied with what one gets.
18] The Old Farmer and His Sons
Once an old farmer lived in a village. He had four sons. They were always quarreling with each other. The farmer tried hard to bring unity among them but they would never listen to his advice. He was very worried about their future.
One day, the old farmer fell sick and decided he should bring unity among his sons. He called his sons and asked them to bring few sticks. They brought the sticks. The farmer asked the eldest son to tie them in a bundle. He then asked them to try their strength to break it.
Each of the sons tried to break the bundle but failed. Then the farmer untied the bundle and gave one stick to each and asked them to break it. Each of them was able to do it easily.
The farmer said, "Now you understand. If you are united nobody can get better of you. But you keep quarreling, you will be broken by anyone."
Moral of the Story :- Unity is Strength.
19] A King’s Painting
Once upon a time, there was a Kingdom. The king there only had one leg and one eye, but he was very intelligent and kind. Everyone in his kingdom lived a happy and a healthy life because of their king. One day the king was walking through the palace hallway and saw the portraits of his ancestors. He thought that one day his children will walk in the same hallway and remember all the ancestors through these portraits.
But the king did not have his portrait painted. Due to his physical disabilities, he wasn’t sure how his painting would turn out. So, he invited many famous painters from his and other kingdoms to the court. The king then announced that he wants a beautiful portrait made of himself to be placed in the palace. Any painter who can carry out this should come forward. He will be rewarded based on how the painting turns up.
All of the painters began to think that the king only has one leg and one eye. How can his picture be made very beautiful? It is not possible and if the picture does not turn out to look beautiful then the king will get angry and punish them. So, one by one, all started to make excuses and politely declined to make a painting of the king.
But suddenly one painter raised his hand and said that I will make a very beautiful portrait of you which you will surely like. The king became happy hearing that and other painters got curious. The king gave him the permission and the painter started drawing the portrait. He then filled the drawing with paints. Finally, after taking a long time, he said that the portrait was ready!
All of the courtiers, other painters were curious and nervous thinking, how can the painter make the king’s portrait beautiful because the king is physically disabled? What if the king didn’t like the painting and gets angry? But when the painter presented the portrait, everyone in the court, including the king, left stunned.
The painter made a portrait in which the king was sitting on the horse, on the one-leg side, holding his bow and aiming the arrow with his one eye closed. The king was very pleased to see that the painter has made a beautiful portrait by cleverly hiding the king’s disabilities. The King gave him a great reward.
Moral of the Story :- We should always think positive of others and ignore their deficiencies. We should learn to focus on the good things instead of trying to hide weaknesses. If we think and approach positively even in a negative situation, then we will be able to solve our problems more efficiently.
20] The Bear and The Two Friends
Once two friends were walking through the forest. They knew that anything dangerous can happen to them at any time in the forest. So, they promised each other that they would remain united in any case of danger.
Suddenly, they saw a large bear approaching them. One of the friends at once climbed a nearby tree. But the other one did not know how to climb. So being led by his common sense, he lay down on the ground breathless, pretending to be a dead man.
The bear came near the man lying on the ground. It smelt in his ears, and slowly left the place. Because the bears do not touch the dead creatures. Now the friend on the tree came down and asked his friend on the ground, “Friend, what did the bear tell you into your ears?” The other friend replied, “The bear advised me not to believe a false friend.”
Moral of the Story :- True Friend is the one who always supports and stands by you in any situation.
21] A Camel and Jackal
Once there lived a camel and a jackal. They were good friends. They lived near a river. One day the jackal came to know that there was a field of ripe melons across the river.
His mouth watered. But he could not cross the river. He went to camel and told him about the melons, the camel was also tempted to eat melons. He carried the jackal on his back and crossed the river.
Both of them reached the field. They started eating the melons. The jackal started howling loudly. The owner of the field came running and started beating the camel.
When the owner went away the camel asked the jackal why he had howled. The jackal replied, "It is my habit to howl after a heavy meal". Both of them returned to the river. The jackal jumped on the back of the camel.
When they were in the middle of the water, the camel began to roll in the water. The jackal said, "Why are you rolling in the water?" The camel replied, "It is my habit to roll in the water after a heavy meal". The jackal could hardly save himself.
Moral of the Story :- Tit for tat.
22] Happiest Bird in the world
A crow lived in the forest and was absolutely satisfied in life. But one day he saw a swan. 'This swan is so white,' he thought, 'and I am so black. This swan must be the happiest bird in the world.' He expressed his thoughts to the swan.
'Actually,' the swan replied, 'I was feeling that I was the happiest bird around until I saw a parrot, which has two colors. I now think the parrot is the happiest bird in creation.'
The crow then approached the parrot. The parrot explained, 'I lived a very happy life until I saw a peacock. I have only two colors, but the peacock has multiple colors.'
The crow then visited a peacock in the zoo and saw that hundreds of people had gathered to see him. After the people had left, the crow approached the peacock.
'Dear peacock,' the crow said, 'you are so beautiful. Every day thousands of people come to see you. When people see me, they immediately shoo me away. I think you are the happiest bird on the planet.' The peacock replied, 'I always thought that I was the most beautiful and happy bird on the planet. But because of my beauty, I am entrapped in this zoo. I have examined the zoo very carefully, and I have realized that the crow is the only bird not kept in a cage. So, for past few days I have been thinking that if I were a crow, I could happily roam everywhere.'
Moral of the Story :- We always underestimate our virtue and overestimate others.
23] Always Stay Alert
Once upon a time there was a lion that grew so old that he was unable to kill any prey for his food. So, he said to himself, I must do something to stay my stomach else I will die of starvation.
He kept thinking and thinking and at last an idea clicked him. He decided to lie down in the cave pretending to be ill and then who-so-ever will come to inquire about his health, will become his prey. The old lion put his wicked plan into practice and it started working. Many of his well-wishers got killed. But evil is short lived.
One day, a fox came to visit the ailing lion. As foxes are clever by nature, the fox stood at the mouth of the cave and looked about. His sixth sense worked and he came to know the reality. So, he called out to the lion from outside and said, how are you, sir?
The lion replied, I am not feeling well at all. But why don’t you come inside?
Then the fox replied, I would love to come in, sir! But on seeing, all foot prints going to your cave and none coming out, I would be foolish enough to come in.
Saying so, the fox went to alert the other animals.

24] Little Boy’s Meeting with God
There once was a little boy who wanted to meet God. He knew it was a long trip to where God lived, so he packed his suitcase with Twinkies and a six-pack of root beer and started his journey. When he had gone about three blocks, he met an old woman. She was sitting in the park just staring at some pigeons.
The boy sat down next to her and opened his suitcase. He was about to take a drink from his root beer when he noticed that the old lady looked hungry, so he offered her a Twinkie. She gratefully accepted it and smiled at him. Her smile was so pretty that the boy wanted to see it again, so he offered her a root beer. Once again, she smiled at him. The boy was delighted! They sat there all afternoon eating and smiling, but they never said a word.
As it grew dark, the boy realized how tired he was, and he got up to leave but before he had gone more than a few steps, he turned around, ran back to the old woman and gave her a hug. She gave him her biggest smile ever. When the boy opened the door to his own house a short time later, his mother was surprised by the look of joy on his face. She asked him, “What did you do today that made you so happy?” He replied, “I had lunch with God.” But, before his mother could respond, he added, “You know what? She’s got the most beautiful smile I’ve ever seen!”
Meanwhile, the old woman, also radiant with joy, returned to her home. Her son was stunned by the look of peace on her face and he asked, “Mother, what did you do today that made you so happy?” She replied, “I ate Twinkies in the park with God.” But, before her son responded, she added, “You know, he’s much younger than I expected.”
Moral of the Story :- God is everywhere. We just need to share our happiness and make others smile to feel him.
25] Most Powerful
A father provided best of education, good moral support, money and everything possible to his son. That boy becomes a top shot. His son gets a grand cabin in the best office of world.
His father feels proud and very powerful. He visits his office. Son is sitting on his chair. Father goes to the back side, keeps his hands on the shoulders of his son. And father asks a question: Who is the most powerful man in the world?
(Father expects that son will say- of course you dad.)
Son proudly says: I am the most powerful person.
Father feels shattered. With wet eyes tries to walk out of the office. But at gate asks once again- oh so you feel that you are most powerful.
Son says innocently: No, dad you are most powerful.
Father: but couple of minutes back you said that you are most powerful.
Son: I said rightly. At that time your hands were on my shoulders. LOVE YOU DAD.
Moral of the Story :- Without parents blessings we are nothing.
